The Jackson Trophy Rally

13/10/2009

Jackson Trophy Rally A Success

After an early tussle Jason Straker/Richard Holdsworth romped home to win the Jackson Trophy Rally with a two minute winning margin. For both driver and navigator it was their first Nat B win. In fact for Straker it was only his fifth rally, while the victory for Holdsworth came after having finished second on no less than twelve occasions.

Late entrants Martin Betts/Richard Hage held a narrow lead over Straker/Holdsworth at Petrol but then put their Escort off the road and out of the event shortly afterwards.

While the winners finished with a comfortable margin over the runners up, the next three places were covered by just five seconds. Ade Green/ Ian Gibbins secured second place, just ahead of Carl Hawkins / Cath Woodman, who had the disadvantages of running as first car on the road and were competing in an Endurance spec Nova. Mark Turner/ Richard Pashley completed the top four just two seconds further back.

Records fall at Mallory Park

Nick Algar won the final round of the British Sprint Championship yesterday, held at Mallory Park and organised by Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club. His time in the Top 12 Run-Off put him well clear of Steve Broughton, and was fast enough to break the circuit's outright lap record, previously set at 38.23s by Johan Rajamaki in a Footwork in 1996. Algar's time of 37.92s also set a new course record and a new championship record.
